HDD - Hard disk drive

Hard disk is a component in every computer and it is a widespread media for saving the data. It is made from: magnetic platters (data carriers), magnetic heads (data readers), motor and electronics (PCB).

Program - firmware is a very important part of hard drive for its functioning. It is responsible for  the synchronization of magnetic platters, heads and electronics. Malfunction of any of the hard drive components may cause the loss of data.

Hardware malfunctions on hard drives can be divided in categories:

Hard Disk Drive Data Recovery process

Process of data recovery from a hard drive starts by cloning the patient drive. Cloning represents copying of the whole hard drive, sector by sector, to another fully operable hard drive. If the disk has some sort of physical damage (head crash, motor malfunction or platter damage) it is necessary to bring the drive to work in order for the cloning to be possible. After the cloning is complete, we analyze the clone disk and recover the data from it. Recovered data is recorded to another hard drive which we call "the data disk".

For any hard disk that has a problem, the most important thing is not to do anything that could additionally damage the drive. For any hard drive malfunction, all unprofessional repair attempts could lower the possibility of data recovery. On a damaged hard drive we would recommend not to use various diagnostic softwares, hdd regenerator or other that could permanently damage the platters and therefore the data on it. It is therefore important to consult a professional before taking any action.
