Electronics failure

Electronics (PCB) assembly is a circuit that powers the motor of the hard drive, retrieves data from the magnetic reader (head), processes them, and then forwards the data  for further use. Communication with the computer is performed through some of the standard interfaces - ATA, SATA, SCSI, SAS...

The most common faults in electronics are related to an electric circuit that starts the motor, so called motor driver. Common problems also include electric shocks and overheating.

In order to recover the data it is necessary to replace defective components. This procedure is done device that blows the hot air, so called "whistlers". If the degree of damage is such that it is impossible to repair electronics, it is necessary to replace it with compatible one.

We have a base of over 2000 hard drives and electronics. In modern hard disks we distinguish electronics with and without a unique ROM chip. On electronics with a unique ROM chip, simple replacement of electronics can't be done. You can easily detect the defective electronics if you don't hear the hard drive motor (if the motor is not spinning).
